On June 26, servicemen of the 28th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces shared video claiming control of a dam on the Seversky Donets Canal located on the western outskirts of the village of Kurdyumovka, south of Bakhmut.
The Ukrainian military showed their flag being raised near one of the facilities of the dam, which was previously controlled by servicemen of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Ukrainian soldier is seen hastily installing the flag in the ground (but not on the top of the building) and the Ukrainian group is rapidly leaving the area, likely afraid of Russian artillery fire. The man behind the camera is commenting, claiming that the stronghold was allegedly captured in a day and a half of fighting. However, the Ukrainian military has been attempting offensive operations in the area for months.
Sources of the Wagner PMC commented on the video, reminding that Wagner fighters had taken control of the village of Kurdyumovka and its outskirts in late November “at the cost of their lives, and now these territories are being given to the enemy”.
The video shared by the Ukrainian military confirm that Ukrainian forces have finally approached the outskirts of Kurdyumovka after months of heavy prolonged battles. The fact that Ukrainian servicemen are running from the battlefield confirm that the village is likely under the full control of the Russian military which is heavily shelling the approaching Ukrainian troops.
