On July 16, an Israeli was seriously wounded and two others were lightly hurt in a shooting attack in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) alleged that the three were wounded when a Palestinian gunman or gunmen opened fire from a passing vehicle on a highway near the settlement of Tekoa, some 16 kilometers to the south of the city of Jerusalem.
According To Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service, the 35-year-old man wounded in the attack is in serious but stable condition at the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. The man’s two daughters, aged 9 and 14, were also taken to Shaare Zedek, and were treated for light wounds that resulted from shrapnel.
Israeli troops had launched a pursuit after suspects, the IDF said, without providing any additional information on the attack.
Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have been high across the West Bank since the IDF conducted a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp earlier this month. At least 12 Palestinians were killed and more than 100 others were wounded during the operation.
The Tekoa shooting attack shows how Israel’s attempts to subdue Palestinians with brute force are not only failing, but also leading to more escalation.
