Heavy battles have been ongoing for almost month and a half on the southern Ukrainian frontlines. One of the main direction of Ukrainian attacks are the settlements located south of Velika Novoselka on the border between the Zaporozhye region and the DPR. Suffering heavy losses, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue “meat assaults” on Russian military positions in an attempt to achieve at least some tactical gains.
The Ukrainian military command has recently stopped large attempts to attack villages under the Russian control located on the border of the Mokrye Yali river south of Velika Novoselka, while resuming constant assaults on the flanks of the Russian grouping.
Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reportedly changed tactics and launched assault on the village of Staromayorske, while clashes near Priyutnoe to the west continued.
Launching numerous waves of attacks covered massive artillery fire, the AFU managed to advance southward and reach the outskirts of Staromayorovske. At night, Ukrainian assault groups of the Ukrainian 35th Separate Naval Infantry Brigade managed to enter the northern outskirts of the village but reportedly failed to gain a foothold there.
The Russian grouping deployed in the village was reinforced by additional forces and managed to secure the control of the village. Heavy fighting is ongoing in the area. The main goal of the AFU is to take control of the hills located north of Staromayorskoe to prevent the Russian military from defending the settlement located in lowlands. At the moment, the military positions on the dominant heights are reportedly still under Russian control. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian military is actively using cluster munitions provided by Kiev’s partners in Washington.
Ukrainian servicemen were spotted evacuating their wounded comrades from the area:
Footage from the front lines confirm that the Ukrainian Army continues suffering heavy losses during the ongoing assault operations, achieving no strategic victories on the battlefield.
