VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Sara DID NOT resign, video of Marcos snub SPLICED

A video circulating on YouTube and TikTok claims that Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio has resigned and that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ignored her while greeting other government officials before boarding a plane. These are not true.

Duterte-Carpio remains in her post. The clip when Marcos supposedly snubbed the vice president is old and spliced.

Uploaded on April 10, the video bore the clickbait text in its thumbnail:

NAG RE-SIGN NA. GRABE ANG GINAWA NILA KAY VPSARA. LAHAT NAGULAT!

(Resigned already! What they did to VP Sara was harsh. Everyone was shocked)!”

Its headline also read: “KAKAPASOK LANG Diosk0 Kumpirmad0 Grabe ang Nangyare kay VP Sara Duterte Lahat Nabigla sa Balitang To (Just in. Oh my god, confirmed. Something harsh happened to VP Sara Duterte. Everyone was shocked with this news).”

There is no official announcement from the Office of the Vice President or any government agency of Duterte-Carpio’s resignation, nor was there a public statement from the vice president that she intends to leave her post.

At the 0:52 mark, the video also played a clip of Marcos supposedly ignoring Duterte-Carpio while an anonymous narrator said:

Ngayon tila nag-iba ang ihip ng hangin. Matapos makita sa videong inupload ng Malacañang na kung saan, sapul sa camera ang tila harap-harapang pandededma ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

(The wind seems to blow differently now. After it was seen in a video uploaded by Malacañang, it was caught on camera that President Bongbong Marcos snubbed Vice President Sara Duterte.)

A TikTok user also posted that same clip with the superimposed text: “Ang Sakit. Di ba nila Kilala o Nakita man lang SI VP Sarah (sic)? Noong kampanya parang Love Team ngayon Parang di na Nila Kilala (That hurts. Did they not know or see VP Sara? During the campaign, they were like a love team but now it’s like they don’t know her)!”

Reverse image search showed that the video was spliced to make it appear that Marcos intentionally brushed off Duterte-Carpio. The footage is not recent but taken on Dec. 11, 2022 during Marcos’ departure for a visit to Belgium.

While Marcos did not greet Duterte-Carpio just before boarding the plane as shown in the viral clip, the two already exchanged greetings beforehand. The full video from Radio Television Malacañang showed that Marcos shook hands with the vice president before going through with the departure honors ceremony.

Duterte-Carpio was then seen walking behind the president alongside First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

The video emerged two days after Duterte-Carpio’s “no comment” remark over China’s continued aggression in the West Philippine Sea.

Uploaded by YouTube channels PINAS NEWS INSIDER and XCREW, the erroneous video has received 97,718 interactions. TikTok users @kaloyal_tv.official and @lifesaverstv also posted the spliced video, drawing over 600,000 interactions.
