Climate activists demanding rich countries to deliver their pledges to finance ways to mitigate climate change trooped to the United States Embassy on Roxas Boulevard June 11 to deliver their message to members of G7 who will be meeting in Italy on June 13-15.

G7 is short for Group of Seven composed of advanced economies namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union (EU) is a “non-enumerated member.” It is organized around shared values of pluralism, liberal democracy, and representative government.

A press release by the protestors said “To address the climate crisis, poor countries need climate finance from the world’s wealthiest nations, who have historically emitted the most greenhouse gases and contributed the most to climate change. Without funds from the G7, who committed to providing climate finance when they signed the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1992, poor countries cannot phase out fossil fuels, phase in renewable energy, build resilience against climate impacts, and address loss and damage. We strongly call on the G7 to fulfill their obligations and urgently deliver climate finance so that poor countries can take action and tackle a crisis they did not cause.”
