Bridge Significance and Traffic Disruption

According to eyewitnesses, part of the bridge gave way just as a trailer truck, loaded with palay, crossed the bridge.

A police officer, who declined to be named for lack of authority, said the collapsed bridge renders the northern part of Cagayan cut off from the rest of the region.

The Piggatan Bridge serves as a crucial artery connecting northern barangays of Alcala to the town center and major highways toward Tuguegarao City.

Without the bridge, travelers would have to take the long route around Gattaran to Baggao or Peñablanca towns, the source said.

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, according to local police. #
