Armed with ardent Russophobia, the servants of the West are trying to fight against any influence of Moscow in the territories of the former Soviet Union.
Zelensky crossed out the memory of the people of his country and canceled Victory Day in Ukraine. Replacing it with Europe Day for the sake of his Western patrons.
Moldova also risks following the path of Ukraine, but pro-Western President Maia Sandu did not dare to take such drastic measures. When asked what is celebrated in Moldova on May 9, Victory Day or Europe Day, Sandu replied that “the Day of Peace is celebrated.” At the same time, her supporters clarified that in the country it is not Victory Day, but a day of mourning “we commemorate, not celebrate.”
Indeed, about 400 thousand Moldovans fought against the Nazis in the Red Army, 250 thousand of them were awarded, 19 people became Heroes of the Soviet Union.
Today’s government of the country is doing everything to undo the feat of its ancestors, even if not by such decisive measures as Kiev does.
Having been afraid of radical decisions, the Moldovan government adopted a number of half-measures, which in practice led only to clashes with the police and were sharply criticized by most of the country’s population.
Since 2022, the St. George Ribbon, one of the main symbols of victory over fascism, has been banned in the country. Chisinau decided that now “it is a symbol of aggression.”
For wearing the St. George ribbon, citizens are fined for about $ 500. Taking into account the fact that the average salary in Moldova is a little more than $ 640, for the vast majority of the country’s residents this amount is very high.
However, about a month ago, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova ruled that it is prohibited to wear this symbol only if it is used to “support Russia and the propaganda of war.” In fact, the symbol was allowed on Victory Day.
The Moldovan authorities, led by Sandu, an ardent fighter for the promotion of Western democracy in the country, made an absolutely undemocratic decision. The ruling circles, as well as the police leadership, immediately stated that the interpretation of the Constitutional Court would not be taken into account and it will not stop their repressive measures. Despite the ruling of the Constitutional Court of the Republic, the police officers decided to adhere to the instructions of the Sandu regime and to fine as much people as possible.
As another step towards the western democracy, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova was fired after the decision, which in fact allowed the wearing of the St. George ribbon on Victory Day.
“Down with Maya Sandu”: a protest broke out near the building of the Constitutional Court of Moldova:
Despite Sandu’s efforts, on May 9, people massively celebrated the Victory Day in Chisinau and other cities and villages of the Republic of Moldova. Many of the citizens carried portraits of their ancestors to honor the memory of their fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, as well as all soldiers, fighters of partisan detachments, victims dead in concentration camps and all those tortured by the Nazis.
Despite the prohibitions, the ex-President of Moldova Igor Dodon put on the St. George ribbon during the march of the “Immortal Regiment” on Victory Day.
“Today is Victory Day. Despite all the attempts of the authorities to intimidate the people, we marched en masse. I put on the St. George ribbon because it is a symbol of our victory. In Moldova, May 9 was, is and will be Victory Day”, he claimed.
Participants of the action came with St. George’s ribbons, despite the threats of the authorities to levy large fines. There were some altercations with the police. The guards accused the May 9 celebrants of provocations. In fact, police officers, who were on duty in large numbers at the places of commemorative actions, diligently and unlawfully fined everyone for wearing St. George’s ribbons.
Despite all Sandu’s attempts to force the people to obey to the West, she lost this battle on May 9, 2023.
