Stop the attacks on Palestinian people!
On Wednesday, April 5, minutes before their sunrise Ramadan prayers, hundreds of Palestians were tear-gassed, beaten, and arrested by Israeli occupation forces inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’ Old City.
Israeli occupation police stormed into the mosque, broke the windows, used sound bombs and suffocated the worshippers with tear gas. According to reports over 400 were arrested by the Israeli forces.
Palestinian Red Crescent even reported that Israeli forces prevented medics from helping the wounded inside the mosque.
Last year, more than 300 Palestinians were arrested and at least 170 wounded as Israeli forces launched incursions at the compound during the holy month. This followed deadly violence in the occupied West Bank in late March, in which 36 people were killed. In May 2021, Israeli forces stormed the compound using tear gas, rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades against worshippers during Ramadan. Hundreds of Palestinians were injured, drawing international condemnation.
Israeli forces have been consistent with launching attacks against Palestinian peoples. Just hours after the first raid, Israeli police stormed the mosque again and used stun grenades to drive out Palestinians.
The United States, a long-time ally of the Zionist occupation has once again reaffirmed its backing of the occupation, with US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel saying “Our commitment to Israel’s security is ironclad and we recognize that Israel has the legitimate right to defend itself against all forms of aggression”, after being asked to comment on the attacks.
The Commission 10 of the ILPS strongly condemns the Zionist Israeli’s attack terrorizing our Palestinian brothers and sisters observing Ramadan. On top of taking away the right of Palestians to their land, Israeli occupation and its fascist forces are the very threat to Palestinian’s right to safety, peace and exercise of their faith.
