Muslim Filipinos attend an outdoor prayer on Wednesday, June 28, at the Blue Mosque in Taguig City to celebrate Eid’l Adha. They slaughtered cows, goats or lambs remembering Ibramin’s sacrifice to God. Well-to-do Muslims share the meat to their less privileged brethren.

Republic Act No. 9849 declares the 10th day of the Islamic calendar as a national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Adha, which commemorates Ibrahim’s supreme act of offering his son, Ismael, to God as a sacrifice.

Online historical accounts relate that God recognized Ibrahim’s obedience and sent a ram instead to be sacrificed.
