Filipinos in Toronto urge transparency, accountability in migrants’ aid fund

TORONTO – In the true spirit of heroism, as Bonifacio day approaches, progressive Filipinos in the diaspora led by the TAMA NA Coalition submitted a petition to the Philippine Consulate in Toronto, November 28.

The coalition, represented by migrants, youths, church sectors, artists, and the broader Filipino community engaged in a dialogue with the Philippine consulate officials to outline key demands.

These include full transparency and accountability in the investigation of the ongoing trillion-peso ghost flood-control projects in the Philippines, as well as transparency on the Aksyon fund, the budget and resources allocated for migrant workers’ legal aid, repatriation, and other welfare needs.

Reading her statement in front of the consuls present, Livvy Camacho of Malaya Canada stressed that the petition reflects the hopes of many Filipinos in Canada for “a government that is truthful, responsible, and genuinely responsive to the needs of its people.”
