On April 18, a series of Iraqi airstrikes destroyed several hideouts of ISIS cells in the countryside of the northern Iraqi province of Kirkuk.

In a statement, the Iraqi Security Media Cell said that the airstrikes were carried out by the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) based on information provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate, adding that at least four terrorists of ISIS were killed in the operation.

The cell and the IQAF released footage of the pinpoint airstrikes, which were carried out by F-16IQ fighter jets armed with 227-kg GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bombs.

The deadly airstrikes were the most recent in a series of operations by the IQAF and local intelligence services in Iraq that killed dozens of ISIS terrorists in different parts of the country in the last few months. The operations demonstrated Iraq’s ability to counter the terrorist group without support from the United States-led coalition.
Earlier this month, at least five terrorists were killed in a series of Iraqi airstrikes that hit hideouts of ISIS near Hamrin Lake in the eastern province of Diyala.

Iraq announced the defeat of ISIS in 2017. However, the terrorist group is still waging an insurgency in the country, mainly in the western, northern and eastern regions.
