On May 9, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Pakistan arrested the former head of government, chairman of the opposition Movement for Justice (Tehreek-e-Insaf party) party Imran Khan. He was taken into custody after a court hearing of the Islamabad High Court in the case of embezzlement of funds of the Al-Qadir Trust Fund.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Pakistan, Rana Sanaullah, Imran Khan was summoned to court several times, but he ignored the summons, that’s why a decision was made to arrest him.

Imran Khan was removed from the post of Prime Minister in 2022 as a result of a vote of no confidence passed by parliament. Dozens of criminal cases have been opened against him on various charges, including terrorism and organizing riots. According to the investigation, Khan, his wife and fellow party members, caused damage to the treasury of Pakistan in the amount of 50 billion rupees by founding a trust to create Al-Qadir University.
