As the Senate continues its investigation into the identity and background of controversial Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, a video on YouTube claims that President Ferdinand Marcos has ordered the mayor’s deportation. This is not true.
On May 26, a YouTube channel published the spurious video with the following headline:
“KAKAPASOK LANG Grabe ang Utos! PBBM Nagwala Mayor Alice Guo Pinalayas sa PINAS Huli Spy ng CHINA?
(Just in, this order is insane! [President Marcos] goes wild, kicks out Mayor Alice Guo from the Philippines. Caught as a spy of China?)”
At around the five-minute mark of the video, the following text appeared: “PINALAYAS SI ALICE GUO PABABALIKIN NASA (sic) CHINA? (Alice Guo has been deported, will be sent back to China?)”
The video never showed evidence to prove its claim. For most of the video’s 28-minute run, the only footage shown was the May 19 live commentary by former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque criticizing the Senate for “bullying” the Bamban mayor during their investigation.
Marcos never ordered Guo’s deportation to China. The president only publicly mentioned the controversial mayor twice as of this writing:
- First, when he said in a May 16 press interview that no one knows the lady and expressed his support for the investigation into Guo’s identity;
- And second, during a May 21 media interview to say that the circulating photos of him and the mayor “proves nothing” as lots of similar pictures were taken during his 2022 presidential campaign.
The untrue video emerged as the Senate continued its probe on the irregularities of Guo’s citizenship and her alleged links to illegal Chinese gaming operations under her jurisdiction.
YouTube channel PHILIPPINES TRENDING NEWS (created on Dec. 10, 2014) published the video with the false claim, garnering over 43,000 views and 1,200 online interactions.
