Heavy battles are ongoing in the area of Avdiivka, where the Russian Army continues surrounding the Ukrainian garrison from several directions.
On May 11, Russian forces reportedly expanded the zone of their control north of Opytne and captured some Ukrainian strongholds on the southern outskirts of Avdiivka. Clashes are ongoing along the railway station and near the ninth district of the town.
At the same time, Russian forces launched offensive operations from their military positions in Kamenka, Krutaya Balka, Kashtanovoe located on the eastern outskirts of Avdiivka. Clashes are ongoing near the local quarry.
Positional battles continue to the north-west of Avdiivka, where Russian forces continue their assault on Ukrainian strongholds near Novokalinovo and Keramik.
Russian military sources shared new video from the town Avdiivka, showing another Ukrainian attempt to counterattack. A group of Ukrainian servicemen on an infantry fighting vehicle and a tank attempted to recapture the military positions that they have recently lost during the Russian advance on the outskirts of the town. The Ukrainian servicemen were met by fire of the 111th regiment of the Russian Army. The video shows that an RPG grenade hit the tank, artillery fire hit the BMP. As a result, the offensive operation of the AFU failed and Ukrainian servicemen fled from the battlefield.
The town of Avdiivka, located in the north-western part of the Donetsk urban agglomeration, is a strategically important stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, from where Ukrainian servicemen are constantly shelling the streets of Donetsk. The region is currently inflamed by positional battles.
No drastic changes are expected in Avdiivka in the near future, since the AFU is unlikely to launch any major offensive operations in this densely populated area, while the Russian military will most likely wait for the upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Donbas before continuing to break through the Ukrainian defense in the area.
