Through a special order dated Nov. 3, the Department of Transportation reinstated Teofilo Guadiz III as chairman of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). This came almost a month after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered Guadiz’s suspension on allegations of corruption.
The Office of Executive Secretary confirmed this on Nov. 5, saying that the Office of the President (OP) lifted the suspension order after Jefferson Tumbado recanted his allegations against Guadiz.
“There stands no reason to place Chairman Guadiz under preventive suspension unless a supervening event maintaining the same accusations against him are put forth before the OP,” it added.
Tumbado, Guadiz’s former executive assistant, alleged during a media briefing on Oct. 9 that transport officials receive up to P5 million from operators to speed up transactions such as route modification and franchise application in the LTFRB.
