Turkish Intelligence Targeted Kurdish Operative Who Plotted Bombings In Northern Syria (Video)

The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) had neutralized a senior Kurdish operative in northern Syria, Turkish security sources told the Anadolu Agency on July 14.

The official news agency identified the operative as Heysem Cuma, linking him to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Kurdistan Communities Union as well as to the People’s Protection Units, which is the core unit of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Citing its source, the agency said that Cuma was responsible for several bomb attacks in Jarablus in 2019, as well as the 2020 car-bombing in Afrin which left 40 civilians dead, including 11 children, and 47 people wounded.

The operative, codenamed Heysem Abu Dahham, was operating in the SDF-held town of Manbij in the northern Aleppo countryside and transferring weapons to attack nearby Turkish-occupied areas, primarily the Euphrates Shield Operation Zone, said the sources.

Cuma was neutralized by the MİT on July 9 in an operation in Manbij, according to the Anadolu Agency. On that day, a bombing rocked the town center destroying a car and at least killing three people.

The term “neutralized” is usually used by official Turkish sources to imply that the person in question was killed, wounded or captured.

It’s worth noting that the MİT stepped up its operations in the northern regions of Syria and neighboring Iraq in recent months, assassinating a number of commanders and operatives of the PKK and its affiliates using combat drones and other means.
