A reader asked VERA Files Fact Check to look into a milk product that allegedly detoxifies and cleans the lungs being promoted by four Facebook (FB) pages. These are bogus claims.
“Pneumonia, Bronchitis, asthma, [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] C.O.P.D. resolved right after 7 days of using Lung Gold Milk,” read an Aug. 9 post by FB page Lung Gold Milk – Specialty Milk For Lung Patients.
Lung Gold Milk is not registered as a food product under the Food and Drug Administration.
“Don’t trust quick fixes,” the American Lung Association advises people. “While detox remedies seem like a great concept, unfortunately, many claims made by companies selling dangerous and unproven treatments are exaggerated and can even be harmful,” it added.
Lungs are self-cleaning organs that heal themselves once they are no longer exposed to pollutants, the health association said.
The fake ads carried links to a website (lunggoldmilk.com) that tricks people into logging in to their Facebook Messenger account to allegedly track their order.
The website, which brandishes the name “Manila International Clinic” when opened, claims to give discounts as big as 70% and a money-back guarantee.
No such clinic exists based on a cursory search, and the site’s offers reflect red flags of fraudulent health claims, as listed by the Department of Health:
- The product is advertised as a quick and effective cure-all for a wide range of illnesses.
- There is a money-back guarantee promise.
- The product is advertised as available from only one source.
FB pages Lung Gold Milk – Nutrition For Lung Diseases (created on Aug. 9), Lung Gold Milk – Specialty Milk For Lung Patients (also created on Aug. 9), and Lung Gold Milk – No.1 lung tonic colostrum in the philippines (created on Nov. 21, 2022) posted the bogus ads, which garnered a total of over 1,368 interactions collectively.
Ads for the bogus milk supplement appeared this August, which is observed as National Lung Month.
