The headline of a video circulating online claimed that missing beauty pageant contestant Catherine Camilon has already returned to her family. The video provided no evidence to support this claim.
“CATHERINE CAMILON, EMOSYONAL NA PAGBABALIK NI CATHERINE SA KANYANG PAMILYA (Catherine Camilon, Catherine’s emotional return to her family),” the headline of a Jan. 6 video posted on YouTube claimed.
But the video narrator stated that Camilon – who has been missing since Oct. 12, 2023, is allegedly being held in an undisclosed location without backing up the claim either.
The case of Camilon’s disappearance is currently undergoing a preliminary probe. On Jan. 9, a driver allegedly linked to the case surrendered to the police.
Several netizens in the comments section said the video story was “fake news,” and that the information was “useless.” But others thought it was true and said “buti nakauwi na sya (good thing she’s back home).
The claim appeared three days after Camilon’s sister and mother posted on Facebook birthday greetings for her on Jan. 3, saying they were praying for her return.
Posted on Jan. 6 by YouTube channel VIRAL BROADCAST PH (created on March 12, 2020), the video got 14,374 views, 271 likes, and 39 comments. A reuploaded version by Facebook page rizkia (created on March 4, 2023) garnered 2,789 reactions, 389 comments, and 189,000 views.
