WORKERS HOLD WAGE FORUM IN ILOILO CITY AS LABOR DAY APPROACHES

April 27, 2024

ILOILO CITY – Workers from different unions and labor groups under the United Labor Alliance gather today, April 27, in a wage forum in Iloilo City.

During said forum, workers from both public and private sectors discuss and share their respective labor situations, highlighting the call for wage increases and living wages for all.

According to Elmer Forro of Kilusang Mayo Uno and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Panay, the government should hear the workers’ demands for living wages as they hold a vital role in running the economy.

The forum also highlighted the call of the transport sector as the April 30 consolidation deadline looms near. Moreover, workers also registered their opposition to Charter Change as it will only worsen the labor situation in the country.

The forum ended with a picket protest. The group said they will hold a protest on Labor Day, May 1, to amplify the call for wage increase and decent employment for all. Meanwhile, the transport sector will also hold a protest action and kampuhan in front of the Land Transportation Office in Iloilo City on April 30./
