Ang Bayan Ngayon » Southern Mindanao groups hold protest to call for the surfacing of abducted labor organizer

April 26, 2024

Members of Kilusang Mayo Uno-Southern Mindanao Region (KMU-SMR) and Anakbayan-Southern Mindanao held a protest today, April 25, in Davao City to call for the immediate surfacing of abducted workers’ organizer William Lariosa. Today is the 15th day of his enforced disappearance.

The 48th IB agents abducted Lariosa, 63, on April 10 in Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon. Lariosa and his family have long been under fire from the military. Receiving many threats and harassment prompted him to take refuge in Bukidnon since 2021.

During the investigation conducted by human rights groups on April 11 in Quezon town, residents of the community confirmed the abduction of Lariosa. Lariosa’s family and associates remain in the dark about his condition or current whereabouts.

The groups assert that Lariosa’s abduction is a blatant attack on workers’ rights and freedom of association and organization. KMU-SMR also called on the public to cooperate with them if they have information on the whereabouts of the organizer.
