Statement of the ILPS
The International League of Peoples’ Struggle condemns the horrific fascist character and plunderous intent of imperialism that the United States has once again launched against the Islamic Republic of Iran. After the Ramadan war, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had brought a brief lull in hostilities. However, as had been demonstrated early on, the US imperialist forces continued violation of the MoU, and finally once again Iran is being ravaged by daily bombings and fire power; the MoU is effectively dead along with the ceasefire.
According to the MoU signed, the violations include ignoring the Iranian administration of the Strait of Hormuz and creating an alternate corridor for passage of ships which was a violation of Article 5 of the MoU. Other violations included continued attacks on Lebanon by ‘Israel,’ not releasing Iran’s frozen assets, renewing sanctions on sale of oil as well as further sanctions on Iran, and making threats against the country and its leaders.
The recent US attacks on Iran have resulted in damage to civilian infrastructure and lives, with a children’s cancer hospital being bombed and under care children having to be evacuated. On July 18, 2026, the US committed more war crimes by striking water desalination pumps and electrical infrastructure in Southern Iran, cutting off water supplies to 10,000 people in 20 villages. According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 50 people were killed and at least 500 injured in US strikes in July. While the Gulf countries have not released official figures on the number of civilian casualties suffered in the region, 3 US soldiers have been killed in strikes on US military installations and nearly 100 have been injured since July 7. This is just at the beginning of the fresh US assault while at least 3,468 people were killed along with more than 26,500 injured during the 39-day war.
The US imperialist fresh attacks are a bid to wrench control of the Strait of Hormuz from Iran. The US has been preparing for a ground assault in the past months and it is possible that a ground invasion of Iran will take place which will lead to thousands of lives being lost to the insatiable desire of the US to maintain its global hegemony. The vicious attacks by the US-Zionist forces in West Asia, the genocide in Gaza, and the continued assault against Cuba and colonization of Venezuela have laid bare the fascist imperialist nature of the US as well as western colonial facade.
With the Strait of Hormuz once more closed, this will only exacerbate the economic hardship on the working people of the world, especially Asia and the Pacific. The summer heat is at a peak and without access to energy resources, water, electricity, the suffering of the people will know no bounds. As was before, agriculture and industrial production will be highly impacted leading to shortage of food, medicines as well as putting at stake millions of livelihoods.
The people of Iran have shown clearly that they will not surrender to the US-Zionist attacks, and the continuation of the war will result in nothing but a defeat of the US-Zionist forces. The people globally have rallied with the people of Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon against the heinous wars of aggression carried out by the US-Zionist alliance. The League stands with the Axis of Resistance and the agitating people’s movements against US-Zionist fascist regimes to expose and repel their attacks against people’s fight for national liberation, self-determination, sovereignty, human dignity and just lasting peace.
