Statement of the ILPS Provisional Regional Committee for Africa and West Asia
The ILPS Provisional Regional Committee for Africa and West Asia calls for a stop to the Israeli government’s unjust war in Lebanon, especially its indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets. Since March 2, the Zionist and colonialist “Israel” has taken advantage of American bombings in Iran, not just by stepping up atrocities in Gaza but also by reigniting war in Lebanon.
While the US has been firing missiles toward Iran and hectoring ground troops and naval support from nations it calls as allies, including some Gulf states, “Israel” has bombed parts of central, southern and eastern Lebanon. This has prompted Hezbollah to retaliate by launching missiles at Zionist settlements in Northern occupied Palestine.
Both the US and “Israel” appear hell-bent on scorching countries and people who assert their right to self-determination.
The “Israeli” military launched airstrikes against Beirut. They destroyed residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, as such killing and injuring thousands of civilians. “Israeli” troops also conducted ground assault operations in southern Lebanon. In response, Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel and fought Israeli forces on the ground.
“Israel” is violating the sovereignty of Lebanon. It even shamelessly imitated US President Trump in issuing orders to other countries’ citizens. “Israel” has ordered residents to move out from below the Litani River in southern Lebanon, displacing as of this writing about one million Lebanese. Driving residents to move out of their homes and indiscriminately attacking civilian infrastructure and residential buildings patently amounts to war crimes. Netanyahu and “Israel” are racking up a long list of war crimes. Thus far, “Israel’s” attacks have killed 912 people, including 111 children. According to the UN, as many as “a classroom of children” is harmed or killed every day.
The result of “Israel’s” incursion is that in Lebanon today government services have all but collapsed. The people affected by the conflict increasingly have to depend on charity to provide for their basic needs. But according to reports, the available humanitarian assistance in Lebanon is “struggling to keep pace with the scale of the displacement crisis.”
The ILPS Provisional Regional Committee for Africa and West Asia urges organizations to help mobilize relief and aid to the Lebanese people and help avert this impending humanitarian crisis. Ultimately, the long-term solution is for the US-backed Israel to stop its atrocities in Lebanon and Gaza.
Signed,
International League of Peoples’ Struggle – Provisional Regional Committee for Africa and West Asia
