A fan page on Facebook (FB) pretending to be affiliated with Robinsons Supermarket has duped thousands of netizens into interacting with its posts, claiming to give away gift bags for the grocery chainโs โanniversary.โ
Three such fake posts by FB page
Good luck ๐โ
(To celebrate the anniversary of Robinsons Supermarket, we will give a custom gift bag to everyone who writes โLove Robinsons Supermarketโ before April 25, 2023. Good luck.)
The bogus FB page added in the comment section that netizens must share the raffle posts to 10 other FB groups to claim their prize.
Robinsons Supermarket did not post such a gimmick.
On Jan. 18 via its official FB page, it warned netizens not to participate in raffle promos by unofficial pages and advised the public to check the chainโs official social media accounts.
The same fake FB page has been fact-checked by VERA Files in February for claiming to give away refrigerators.
One of the photos used in the bogus posts allegedly shows the gift bag prizes. Not true, according to reverse image search.
The photo, captured on May 18, 2020 at a warehouse in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, shows food packs distributed to Indonesians during the COVID-19 pandemic.ย
The supermarket chain, which has over 300 stores in the country, celebrates its anniversary every August and not in April as claimed.

The bogus posts, which appeared on April 15, 2023, Dec. 2, 2022, and Nov. 22, 2022, got over 3,070 reactions, 11,900 comments, and 10,400 shares collectively. The latest post appeared two days after Robinsons Supermarket promotedproducts on its official page.
