On 127th Independence Day, progressives protest US military intervention

Marking the 127th day of Philippine independence, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and allied organizations rally en route to the US Embassy condemning the escalating US military interventions and influence in the Philippines backed by various military agreements and other foreign policies. The groups also expressed the Filipino people’s strong solidarity with the Palestinian people against continuing US-Israel genocide in Palestine.

Groups have criticized Bongbong Marcos Jr. for its complicity in serving the interests of foreign entities, particularly the US imperialist. In a statement, Bayan condemned the Marcos Jr.’s regime “for promoting the geopolitical agenda of the US government and allowing the conversion of the Philippines into an extension of the US military network.”

Activists also condemned the US-sponsored genocide in Palestine, which has resulted in indiscriminate killing of thousands of civilians including women, elders, and children. Chanting “From Palestine to the Philippines, stop the US war machine,” activists rallied in solidarity with the Palestinian people, highlighting shared struggle for genuine independence.
